Having been in the craft for years now, my road to find this path was much like others. I was first baptized into a Christian Cult that offered baptisms in the ocean (one of my only memories as a young child). Then, when my dad found out about the baptism, I was re-baptized into the Episcopalian church. We attended a Methodist church, sporadically, and then I attended (survived) Catholic High School.
It was in high school that I actually came to the determination that I knew there was something out there, but I wasn’t quite certain what it was. The school to which I went was very unhappy with this, as I was in trouble in the religious studies courses constantly.
In college, I decided to study religions, since I found them fascinating and was of the belief that I had a unique position being not 'of' any of them, I could 'analyze' them without 'prejudice.' Yeah, right, it is easier for a headless man to choose a hat than for anyone to look at another religion (or culture) without comparing it to something.
I did my English Term Paper on the initiatory rites of Wicca, as I was fascinated with occult groups and happened to know some people in this occult at the time. To this day, I do not know if my friends in that community know that I chose the path of witchcraft (since it sings to me so beautifully).
When I left college, I came home and was still fascinated by the craft and the group called wiccans. I couldn't buy enough of the books by Scott Cunningham, Janet & Stewart Farrar and Margot Adler (all were mostly excellent books). I decided on Samhain (I still called it Halloween at the time) in 1990 that this was my path and performed a personal dedication to this path. This was probably the most magickal moment in my life up until then, as many things that I had misunderstood from my past were explained to me. (Yes, I dedicated myself, without the assistance of a coven structure, had no coven to which to refer and thought that I was invariably alone in my decision. After all, who has ever heard of a witch in the city?)

I spent 7 years of my life recognizing and developing the feminine in myself so that I could better understand and worship the goddess. It took me 7 LONG years to find the God force again. I had no idea that there could be a god that wasn’t as was portrayed to me as a child and wasn't an EVIL force. My first experience in using magick as a man was at Raven's Flight in North Hollywood. I owe a lot to that store as most of my craft friends were found through that store, as well as my true nature was revealed to me in that store. I had found the godforce of the Witches and was unstoppable [still am unstoppable…].
This is where I met Mary. Mary was my first strong contact at the store. Being in the same ritual together, my first attended ritual at the store, we were grouped together by our sun signs for a magickal working. We became immediate friends and found a soul connection between us. Mary is the best.
My history with the clan came about after Mary did the Samhain ritual at the store that year. I asked her if I could join the clan and was allowed entrance. Since joining the clan, I have made leaps and bounds in what I thought I could do becoming what I have done. I have accomplished more as a spiritual/magickal soul than I could have accomplished by myself. (This says a lot because before I met, and even after meeting Mary, I had stated that I would never join another coven. This was after having had a bad experience with another group who thought I had magickally attacked them. I appreciated the compliment on my powers, but sorry, it wasn't me.) Mary and the Clan of the Laughing Dragon has made a serious and wonderful change in my life.
If you ever are in the Los Angeles area, hook up with us for a public ritual. We aim to please…
